With LIGHT DIALOGUES, ZFIL opens up new perspectives on a fascinating medium: light itself. The focus is on the creative and technical means by which artists use light to create impact, atmosphere and meaning. In cooperation with SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen, a dialogue is created between two institutions, two collections – and the works themselves.
Unlike earlier presentations, which often focused on spatial installations, this exhibition emphasizes concentration: around 20 iconic artworks engage in a multi-layered dialogue. Their placement creates deliberate impulses that make different artistic strategies in working with light visible. Key historical works encounter contemporary positions, opening up new perspectives on a medium that is both shaped by technology and sensorially experienced.
To structure these encounters, the exhibition is divided into three thematic focal points: form, colour and sign. Visitors can experience how light shapes form and space, how coloured light influences emotion and perception, and how luminous text becomes a carrier for meaning. In engaging with the works, similarities, differences and connections become apparent, opening up the dialogue for viewers and thus further stimulating exchange between the works beyond the thematic focuses.
